Chiang Mai temples and Sunday walking street

Today we visited several temples in Chiang Mai. They were less ornate than the golden palace and hence less gaudy. First we went to Wat PraSingh, the home of the lion Buddha which is considered one of the most beautiful Lanna Buddhas. It was actually hard to pick out and we had to ask a monk to show us which one. Next we went to Wat Chedi Luang which is where the emerald Buddha was uncovered and now has a replica. There's also ruins of the previous temple and the city pillar. Finally we went to Wat..., the teak temple which I thought was the most attractive since the gold Buddha was better highlighted by the teak building which only had minimalist gold decoration.

After this we were all templed out. We had lunch at a local noodle shop and tried khao soi - an egg noodle in curry soup that was quite tasty.
We was several flower floats near the victory monument square. We also saw a lady making Popsicles using a metal container containing ice and presumably rock salt which she rotated back and forth to freeze down the pops. Awesome.
After chilling at the hotel for a bit we headed out to the Sunday walking street which was far larger and more packed than usual because it was the last day of the flower festival. We got to see a couple cultural performances including drummers and fire spitters as well as a Lanna dance performed by local girls. A far better performance than the pandemonium that was at Siem Reap.
The walking street market was great with great food and vendors of all sorts. It was nice to see that it wasn't just tourist there.
