Acadia national park - day 4

It was a beautiful day with plenty of sun and without all the wind like yesterday.

Acadia national park - day 3

After having no issues with the beehive trail the previous day, we embarked on the Precipice trail. This is supposed to be more strenuous and precarious with many warnings of prior injuries and fatalities.

The climb was great! I only got a bit of vertigo once or twice, after reminding myself not to look down many times. It was a lot of fun.

The descent was less fun. It was super windy up there and the was a lot of ice on the rocks. And the orange and black trail across was a lot of ups and downs that we didn't expect. But I'm glad we did it and will do it again one day but probably take the orange and black trail down to the park loop instead of across.

Acadia national park - day 2

It was a rainy and gray day so I didn't have high expectations. However, we got a climb on beehive in before the rain started and walked along Jordan pond in the rain and it was delightful.

Acadia national park - day one

We took the local route instead of 95 North and stopped at Perry's nut house on Belfast because they advertised home made fudge. They did not disappoint! Highly recommend!

It had been rainy and then cloudy but we could see some clearing through the clouds.
As we headed down the mountain, the main cloud passed so we headed back up for the sunset.
Not bad for a cloudy day.

We had dinner at Havana.

Day 8

On our final day in Hawaii (outgoing flight at 11:55pm) we packed in a drive south with beautiful southern views, a visit to the Volcano National Park during the day, and a drive up Mauna Kea.

Volcano National Park

Maunea Kea - 14,000 feet high. We ended up just stopping at the visitor center at 9000 ft and hiking up a nearby hill to watch the sunset. It was beautiful because we were above the cloud layer. It was also cool to watch the clouds roll in and envelop the mountains.

After the sun set, we were able to see so many stars!

Day 7

As predicted, diving was cancelled because of high surf.  I was glad because I did not want to go diving in such rough waters. We decided to head up north again and visit the Waipi'o valley. This required a 1000ft hike down which of course requires a 1000ft hike back up. But it was totally worth it. We arrived in a beautiful valley with great trees, a river, and a beautiful black sand beach. We had to cross the river to get to the other side of the beach which was fun.

On the way back we saw some wild horses.

After the hike up we got fresh coconuts and rambutans. Yum.

And beautiful sunset as always.

We had dinner at Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill Kona which was highly rated. I liked my seafood trio of crab cakes, shrimp and grilled fish - butterfish - but the other grilled fish - ono - was not good, way too overcooked.
