Kinabatangan river

After leaving Danum valley, we headed to Sukau to the Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. This was a huge step down from the luxury of BRL. The rooms were basic but we at least had a nice view of the river from ours. However, the late afternoon river cruise was just fantastic. I saw everything I had hoped for on the trip. We first saw a crocodile, several cool birds, and a large family of long tail macaques (including 2 babies). Then our guide got a phone call and we sped down the river on the tip of a pigmy elephant sighting. We waited and waited. We could hear them behind the trees but the cover was too thick to see them. We eventually gave up. We saw a family of proboscis monkeys which we had great fun taking pictures of until we reached a clearing area on the river. We waited there for 15 minutes and were rewarded with seeing 4 pigmy elephants including a baby!! It was so wonderful. Now I've seen everything I've see out to see! (Except for the Western tarsier but the guides tell me that hasn't been seen in months.) Everything else will be just gravy! And that's with 2 more river cruises remaining.
