Unfortunately, partly cloudy and then cloudy and then rain in the forecast. When we woke up, only the very bottom of the Mount Doom (Ngauruhoe) could be seen. After a very full breakfast at Skotel, we embarked on the Taranaki falls walk to the Tama lakes. The plan was to just go as far as the lower lake. The views along the way were amazing! I loved peaks of Mount Ruapehu the best.
We got to lower Tama and decided to continue to upper Tama. Unfortunately, the clouds rolled in and didn't get to see upperr Tama Lake very clearly.
It was a great hike though. Such variety of terrain. Something different every half hour.
Taranaki Falls - pretty impressive with beautiful blue waters.
17.6km, 6 hours and 30,000 steps later we completely the full Taranaki Falls and Tama Lakes hike. I'm really glad we did it. It was much too cloudy to see anything on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We even saw a helicopter rescue someone off the mountain!
Next week we drove to Whanganui where we booked a Airbnb near Castle Cliff Beach. With a hot tub!
